It’s day 11 on our crawl through creepy cinema, and today’s feature is the 2018 Indonesian supernatural chiller The 3rd Eye. The film follows two sisters, Alia (Jessica Mila) and Abel (Citra Prima). Abel claims that she can see the dead, but her sister doesn’t quite believe her. After their parents death, Abel takes Alia to see a psychic, who opens her third eye, enabling her to see the dead as her sister sees them. The pair find themselves facing vengeful spirits, and when Abel is dragged to hell, Alia must face her fears to rescue her. 8.5/10 stars

Director Rocky Soraya (The Doll) delivers a fairly effective supernatural thriller with a mix of Halloween haunted house jump scares and some effective horrific make-up effects. While the film may seem to start off as just an Indonesian take on The Sixth Sense, it turns into something more, delivering its own twists and turns and creates a nicely suspenseful atmosphere. The cast is quite good, and though the CGI effects can be a little dodgy, they work well enough with the more practical effects to enhance the creep factor. For those looking for something a bit different, this is one to check out. In Indonesian with English subtitles. Now showing on Netflix.
