Day 25, girls and ghouls, on our madness movie march, and up today is the 2017 Bulgarian flick Nightworld. Former L.A. cop Brett Anderson (Jason London) is haunted by nightmares about his dead wife, and is talked into taking a security job at an old apartment building in Sofia, Bulgaria. While there, he meets a pretty coffee shop worker named Zara (Lorina Kamburova) and begins to experience some bizarre and frightening events. He discovers a malevolent force in the building’s basement that seeks to gain entry into our world. 6/10

This movie, while having an interesting premise, never really fulfills its promise. The main characters just aren’t that interesting, even with an appearance by Freddy Kruger himself, Robert Englund. For a 92 minute movie, this film really seems to plod along, and director Patricio Valladares (Hidden in the Woods) never really generates any real momentum or suspense. Things do get a little bloody in spots, and the building is on the creepy side, but that’s about it. Now available on Blu-ray/DVD and showing on Netflix.
