In just a few months, we’ll be reading Dan Slott’s last Spider-Man story before he moves on to work his magic with Invincible Iron-Man. Until then though, the threat level is at red as we get to see the conclusion of the “Zodiac” arc and bare witness to the birth of something much more sinister.

I can certainly say that its nice to see the conclusion of the “Zodiac” arc. It’s been one year since Spider-Man locked Scorpio inside of the Zodiac Vault, and the time of his return is finally upon him. Scorpio’s time is running out and he’s tearing apart London while he tries to make the best of his waning power. It’s a fun conclusion, but in the end, it’s just a one-and-done encounter. That isn’t a bad thing though, “Threat Level: Red” isn’t about Zodiac. No, Scorpio’s return mainly just heralds the return of Norman Osborn who, by the end of the book, is well on his way to restoring the Green Goblin… or would that be the Red Goblin? I’m not going to spoil the ending of course (Google will though), but time will tell where Norman and his Goblin’s end up.

I can certainly say that the future looks bright and “Threat Level: Red” is a promising start for Slott’s last story arc, “Go Down Swinging”.

One of the great things about Amazing Spider-Man is it’s consistently great art style. However, now that Immonen is back, the art is at an absolute stunning level. With Stuart Immonen we get expressive features and highly detailed artwork. Thanks to Wade von Grawbadger (Inker) and Marte Gracia (colorist), his artwork is brought to life with vivid detail. The team as a whole really does a wonderful job at breathing life into Scorpio’s strange power and Spider-Man’s world.

Amazing Spider-Man #794 is a beautiful and exciting book. It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of an era as Dan Slott’s exit draws ever closer. While Scorpio’s exit is quick, it’s a blast to follow and he needs to make way for the threat that is Norman Osborn. The Goblin is returning and Spider-Man isn’t ready for what’s to come.
