The new Nintendo Direct event was entirely focused on Smash Bros for the Wii U and 3DS, and they gave us a complete rundown on the new titles.
A few of the high points that were announced were
– Samus and Zelda will no longer transform to their counterpart characters mid-battle. Both Zero-Suit Samus and Shiek will be separate playable characters.
– The 3DS version and Wii U version will feature completely different stages, and will include some classic stages from previous Smash titles.
– The 3DS version will contain two music tracks per stage. The Wii U version will have many different tracks.
– In an effort to make the Final Destination stage less bland, each stage will feature a Final Destination mode where the map will be flat, and no items will be available.
– Showed the mass of Pokemon that will be available Deoxys, Fennekin, Arceus, and Palkia among many others will appear.
– The Master Ball will be an item in game that guarantees that a rare Pokemon appears.
– Dr. Wily’s Castle will be a stage and feature a boss character called “The Yellow Devil” whichever player defeats him first will trigger a smart bomb styled explosion.
– We saw move-sets for the new characters and got outlines of their strengths and play-styles. For example, Little Mac is terrible in the air and his attack power actually lowers, but on the ground he has a special meter that builds up allowing him to access a One Hit KO uppercut.
– The Villager from Animal Crossing will be able to catch any projectiles and use them as his own. Even things like Sonic’s bounce pad can be grabbed.
– Yoshi was revealed for the first time and will stand vertically now as opposed to the Super Mario World style.
– Both the 3DS and Wii U version will feature online play.
– Online play will feature a “For Fun” mode and a “For Honor” mode. “For Fun” is basically the standard experience, while “For Honor” is only on Final Destination stages, will allow now items, and can be set for 1 vs. 1 mode.
– A 3DS specific mode “Smash Run” will set four 3DS players. This mode sends four players through a giant dungeon and killing NPC enemies will drop stat-increases. After the timer runs out you’ll battle the other players in a standard match with your stat-boosted character.
– Mega Man has a ton of different abilities based off the powers he took from various enemies in the first three Mega Man titles.
– Lucario will be able to access his Mega Evolution.

And now for the big news.
At the end of the event a cutscene was shown announcing two new playable characters.
Charizard, who will have a mouth grab attack along with some fire-breathing attacks. Charizard will also be able to access his Mega Evolution. Also joining Charizard is fellow Pokemon Greninja, a water type from the X and Y games. Greninja will move a lot more quickly can throw water projectiles, and his Final Smash attack knocks his enemies up into the air and then slashes them.
