Dark Horse to resurrect Firefly

In the last week Dark Horse have begun teasing on twitter a new comic series based on the Firefly/Serenity franchise.

They have yet to announce whether this is going to be a new ongoing series in the style of their Buffy Season 8 and 9, which is proving to be a big hit, or if this is going to be a new one off mini series like they have done previously with Serenity with the likes of Those Left Behind and Better Days.

There have now been a number of Serenity comics two of them being mini-series all released by Dark Horse. They have already dealt with what happens after Wash’s death in Float Out, so if they want to keep this in continuity with what has already been released they are going to have to work around the already existing titles.

The teaser poster they revealed can work both ways to be honest. It is definitely a reference to Wash and his line in Serenity ” I am a leaf on the wind – watch how I soar.”, but whether that means that Wash is going to be in the new book, or if this is a tribute to Wash is yet to be revealed.

Dark Horse have told everyone to keep their eyes peeled for news on this book, by following them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and looking out for the hashtag #WheresSerenity where they will be announcing more news on this title.

Personally I am not sure how this will work.

The TV show did such a good job with introductions of characters.  and they have covered now all the back stories that need to be dealt with and most lose ends in either the movie Serenity or comic books since. I would like to see this continue as a Season 2 like Buffy, just to keep the Firefly legacy alive, but is it worth it just for fan service. But then the question is where do you start the season 2 from? The end of the movie, which they deal with in Float On, or as a gap between the TV show and the movie which isn’t a huge amount of time to play with.

All will be revealed in due course, and I am sure they will do it a good service like Dark Horse do with all their current franchises.
