Dawn of the Planet of the Apes shows off in new trailer

Only two months before its release Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the follow up to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, has a new trailer.

The second in this prequel series takes place ten years after the events of the first film.  Andy Serkis reprises his role as Caesar, the leader of the hyper-intelligent apes who have overrun earth. The trailer shows him interacting with other apes and features Caesar intoning “Family….Future.” to them. The central conflict arises when a group of surviving humans apparently led by Gary Oldman’s character, Dreyfus, strike an uneasy peace treaty with the apes. This doesn’t last long as the humans and apes begin to wage war for supremacy on Earth.

one of the most interesting dynamics in the trailer is that the humans question their hatred of the apes even as Caesar displays some nostalgia for Will, the human who made him what he is.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is in theaters July 11th.
