DC Will Head to the Future This September

Yesterday, DC co-publisher Dan DiDio confirmed the rumors that have been flying for months that the company’s September gimmick will be a series of flash forward issues. These issues will take readers five years into the future of many characters within the DC Universe.

It was stressed that these issues will only depict what could potentially happen, and what we see unfold in these issues is in no way set in stone.

In addition to this announcement, DiDio made the statement that these issues will tie into the events of the weekly series The New 52: Future’s End, which will launch and May, and also will depict the possible future of the DC Universe. It will be written by Jeff Lemire, Keith Giffen, Brian Azzarello, and Dan Jurgens.

DiDio went on to say that “It gives some exciting teases of potential storylines that might be coming for our characters in the near future” and that ‘what you’ll be seeing is a lot of the writers who are working on series right now projecting forward — their ideas their storylines, where they think their character might be five years from now.”

This will also apparently spiral into another weekly series, which will begin in October, and mark the third weekly series that DC will release this year. That’s a lot of weekly series.

Based on what we’ve seen, these will not be .1 issues. Instead, the series will simply continue with its regular numbering, though this is not confirmed. Also: 3-D covers will be returning. Hey, it made them money once. Why not try to replicate that?
