This morning FUNimation revealed that Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is a getting a limited theatrical release in the US and Canada. This will be the first Dragon Ball feature film in 17 years. The movie will run August 5, 6, 7, and 9th in over 350 theaters.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods takes place soon after the defeat of Majin Buu. It introduces a new villain in the form of Beerus, the God of Destruction. Beerus awakens from years of slumber and begins hearing about a Saiyan who defeated Frieza, whom Beerus believed to be the most powerful being (after himself of course). When Beerus heads to Earth looking for a challenge, its up to Goku to protect Earth by ascending to the level of a Super Saiyan God. Battle of Gods is an original work from the original Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama.

The list of theaters and cities isn’t up yet but FUNimation has a sign-up on their website that will allow you to get information as soon as possible as they’re essentially promising that these shows will sell out well in advance.
