Godzilla: The IDW Era Review

IDW Publishing has given their Godzilla fans a special treat this month, with a beautifully created montage. A montage filled with artwork, fun facts, and brief descriptions , all centering around IDW’s multiple hit Godzilla series.

Ford takes you back to the past, where IDW launched Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters. A series so successful, it gave way to “IDW’s Universe”. It included a great summary of the plot line, the artists, their artwork, the writers, and fun facts. Artwork would last pages, made up of almost every single cover done for the series. This pattern continued on, as they reminded the reader of Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths, Godzilla, Godzilla: Legends, among some others. I found myself completely captured by this issue, eyeing over every piece of artwork, and logging every piece of information into my brain.  There is no way any Godzilla fan couldn’t help but to keep the pages turning. There were few objectives to this issue, my biggest complaint being that the end of the comic, was simply the end. There wasn’t a wrap up letter, or a hint of what will be next for IDW’s favorite monster. I also felt that even though there wasn’t a single piece of artwork I didn’t love, there still could have been a few more words. A plot line was given for each comic, and there were a few fun facts, but I wouldn’t have been overwhelmed with a few more bits of history strewn about.

This comic truly was amazing, with great stories and breathtaking art. If you are a true Godzilla fan, there is no way this won’t be in your hands. Even those who are looking to have more information about successful Godzilla comics should take a gander. All in all, IDW did right by calling this their Era.
