July 23rd is Batman Day

DC Comics has declared Wednesday, the 23rd of July to be Batman day. Batman turns 75 this year, which most people probably already know. But this day will be the day to commemorate the Dark Knight’s 75th Birthday. But don’t worry, you won’t need to get him any presents. You probably couldn’t find batarangs at your local convenience stores anyway.

No, instead, DC Comics have decided to give all of us gifts. To start off with, everyone who goes to their local comic book shop on this day will be able to pick up a free copy of Brad Meltzer and Bryan Hitch’s story from Detective Comics #27, which was published in January of this year. Presumably, the rest of the stories and bonus content that appeared in this over sized issue will not appear in this special (free!) reprinting.

In addition, this day will mark the release of other awesome products, which include Batman’s cape and a myriad of Batman graphic novels. Oh, as well as Robin Rising: Omega #1 and Grayson #1. So is this really Batman’s birthday, or just a ploy to get people into shops and buy these comics? I didn’t really mean that. there will also be masks from every era of Batman’s history, and these will be offered completely free of charge.

And if you’re a digital reader? Well, you can still pick up the two #1 issues, and you’ll also be able to get the special edition of Batman #27 for free from Comixology or whatever digital retailer you happen to using.
