The gift of technology is one of the coolest things you can give someone. Or, if you’re a Grinch or a Scrooge, maybe you’d like to just get something for yourself. Either way, check out the list below for the best smartphones you can get this holiday season.

iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5s in Black, white and Gold

Ahh, the iPhone: One of the most divisive devices around. Many people applaud it, while other people hate it. Either way, the iPhone 5S is a solid device bringing solid build quality, excellent camera quality, and more. If you want the latest and greatest when it comes to apps, look no further than the iPhone with all the great apps on iOS. Plus, this phone is practically on every cellphone carrier, so it’s an easy phone to get. This time around, you get three colors to choose from: White, space gray, and gold. I’d definitely go for that Space Gray, personally.

Nexus 5

The Nexus 5
Out of the many Android devices available, I’d definitely pick the Nexus 5 for the holiday season. One big reason is the price; For $350, Google will sell you this phone without any contract. Think about it: The normal contract or buy-in plan is $99, and then you have to pay off the phone which is usually $600 or more. $350 is almost half of what you’ll end up paying for another phone at full price. Then, you get the latest and greatest when it comes to Android updates. The phone is a sexy little device, but from what I’ve heard, the camera isn’t the greatest, which may not matter to some. If you want to give yourself a little treat of Android this holiday, this is the way to go.

I know the Nexus 5 isn’t available on every carrier, so if you are limited by your carrier, I recommend the HTC One, It’s a solid device. I’ve played around with it for a long time, and it’s a great phone.

Nokia Lumia 1020

I know some people think Windows Phone is a joke. I’d like to disagree, but this isn’t the place to argue for that. This is about the phone. It is the definitive camera phone, sporting a 41 megapixel camera sensor. That doesn’t mean that every picture you take will be the best, or that your photo sizes will be huge; it just means it will be easier to take good quality pictures. This phone comes in yellow, white, and black. I’d take the yellow because of how vibrant it is, but others may not want such a bright color and may opt for black or white. One gripe I have with this phone is how big it is. It’s a little hefty and takes time to get used to wielding, but at least it feels solid.  Don’t let the whole ‘Windows phone doesn’t have apps thing get to you’, it’s catching up. Windows phone now has Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and Twitter apps that are fairly solid. If you need to get your Snapchat fix, then you can get 6Snap, an awesome Snapchat client.
