rasputin7Rasputin #7

Written by: Alex Grecian

Art by: Riley Rossmo

Publisher: Image

The second arc of this series kicked off last issue and put Rasputin in modern times in the midst of an American election race. Last issue was so different from what followed previously in terms of set up and themes, yet it still managed to be incredible and that is why I love this series. The creative team have been outstanding on this series since the get go and I really have faith in the story they are trying to tell, so I for one am excited to pick this up on Wednesday!

supes42Superman #42

Written by: Gene Yang

Art by: John Romita Jr & Klaus Janson

Publisher: DC

Post convergence we have been gifted some great superman issues whether it be in Action Comics, Superman Wonder Woman, or the main issue. Whereas, the other two are concentrating on the aftermath of the world knowing Superman’s big secret, Yang & Co are building us up to how it all played out. I am really enjoying the set up and what follows storytelling as it allows me as a reader to try and guess how and why everything is happening, and that is why I am definitely picking this up, I just want more answers!!!

Marvel Previews 07.29.15 – 068Start Wars #7

Written by: Jason Aaron

Art by: Simone Bianchi

Publisher: Marvel

If there was ever a character from the Star Wars Universe that I would love to see Jason Aaron write, it would be Obi Wan Kenobi. Thankfully, Marvel have chosen to give him a one-off issue and it is set to be something special. With the artistry of Simone Bianchi (Wolverine, Thanos Rising)and the writing of hugely talented Jason Aaron (Thor, Original Sin) gracing the pages, we are surely in for a treat. Aaron’s work on the Star Wars series has been nothing short of excellent and the stories have matched some of his best. I’m a huge fan of his work on the Thor series, and as shown, he has a great ability to get to the heart of the characters and that is why I am glad he is going to delve into the legend of Ben Kenobi. Thankfully, I only have to hang on until Thursday!

Marvel Previews 07.29.15 – 011602 Witch Hunter Angela #2

Written by: Marguerite Bennett

Art by: Stephanie Hans

Publisher: Marvel

So I’m pretty hyped for this. I mean a Berzerk-esque dark fantasy story with Marvel characters revolving around witch hunts and a curse? So cool! After the first issue I’m itching to hear what Angela’s going to do now that Serah is cursed to die, is she just going to keep killing Faustians no matter what? Is she going to go against the Enchantress? I’m pretty excited to find out and oh man, that art though! It’s absolutely beautiful with it’s bizarre use of shading and bright colours. Oh man I can’t wait.

Marvel Previews 07.29.15 – 077Thors #2

Written by: Jason Aaron

Art by: Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Marte Gracia

Publisher: Marvel

You know who my favourite superhero is? Thor! How could I not love a hero who, when faced with a problem, their main answer is hit it, hard and if that doesn’t work, do it again but harder. There’s something about the shear simplicity of it that I enjoy but do you know what’s better than Thor? Thors! Oh jeez, creating an army of Thors and turning that into a police service was a stroke of genius and I love it. It creates so many opportunities to put silly spins on tropes of cop dramas and issue one did almost every one in a spectacular way. I’m so interested to see how the serial killer going after Jane Foster’s will fair with one certain Foster and I loved little nods to Thor the unworthy. This by and far has been my favourite side-story of Secret Wars and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for it.

low8Low #8

Written by: Rick Remender

Art by: Greg Tocchini

Publisher: Image

Low is both Image and Rick Remender’s most underrated title. By focusing purely on character and atmosphere, Low lets plot fall, curl, and eddie like the smooth pull of a wave or the vast current of a tsunami. The fact that Low is a book that isn’t constantly showered with praise is baffling to me and many should take the opportunity to follow this title for there are too few like it.
