The Four-Sided Ring: Money in the Bank Preview

This Sunday is the annual Money in the Bank event, and it has a lot to live up to. Just look back to 2010 where Kane won the briefcase and cashed in all in one night. What about 2011 where we not only saw Daniel Bryan win the briefcase, but we saw CM Punk walk into Chicago after his infamous “pipe bomb” and walk out as WWE champion. This year we’re not only going to be crowning a new WWE World Heavyweight champion in a 8 man ladder match, but we’ll also see a traditional Money in the Bank ladder match. Before we go over the Card, let’s take a look at the past few weeks leading to the event.

After Rollins turned on Ambrose and Reigns, it looks like the breakup of the Shield is complete. Ambrose appears to be seeking out revenge against Rollins, and Reigns is fighting the Authority to get his shot at the WWE title. Each now has their own theme music and attire. It’s not such a bad thing, as all three have been built up that the fans really care. Ambrose and Reigns are getting the biggest pops of the night on both shows. It will be interesting to see if all three meet up in the main event scene sometime soon.

Luke Harper and Eric Rowan are now chasing the Uso’s for the tag titles. This is the first time we’ve scene Harper and Rowan come to the ring without Bray, so we’ll see if they can get over on their own. The tag division has been dwindling since last year, but last Monday gave us a glimmer of hope. That hope is Stardust. Yes, Cody Rhodes has taken a new gimmick after weeks of unsuccessfully trying to pair Goldust up with other superstars. Had anyone described this gimmick to me on paper, I would’ve cringed. In theory, it sounds awful, but Cody makes it work. He comes with a new moveset as well, so it’s a breath of fresh air. PLUS, this could go one of two ways: this gimmick could become a success and the team gets one more big push before Goldust retires, OR it doesn’t work out so Cody gets the feud with his brother that they both have wanted for some time. This leads us to the first match announced for Money in the Bank:

Goldust and Stardust vs Rybaxel

This match is essentially filler, but it appears we’ll be seeing a bit more than the squash match we saw last week on Raw. This one is pretty predictable; the Rhodes brothers will beat Rybaxel.

Naomi vs Paige (Diva’s Championship)

We really have yet to see what Paige can do on the main stage. She’s had decent matches, but they’ve been nothing compared to the matches she’s had in NXT. I can’t see this match being much better. Paige will get the win, because I just can’t see them taking the belt off of her until she has a credible threat.

Harper and Rowan vs The Usos (WWE Tag Team Championsip)

This is the competition we’ve been waiting for the Usos to have ever since they won the belts. The Usos’s speed will mesh well with the  brawling style of the Wyatts. We’ll see a good match here, but the Usos will keep the titles.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

This one will be Rollins vs Ambrose vs Rob Van Dam vs Barrett vs Kingston vs Swagger vs Ziggler. There are three standouts from the match to win the briefcase: Ambrose, Rollins, and Barrett. As of my writing this, WWE is reporting that Barrett was injured at the Smackdown tapings. If he’s unable to compete, it will be interesting who, if anyone, is going to replace him. This match will almost certainly steal the show. We have high fliers and multiple guys who are willing to put their body on the line. Be on the look out for some crazy high spots.

Ladder Match for the Vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship

In the main event we’ll see Cena vs Orton vs Sheamus vs Cesaro vs Kane vs Wyatt vs Reigns vs Del Rio. This match is definitely a toss up. My fear is that we’ll see Cena walking out as champion, but we have so many good options other than Cena. Reigns has been on a hot streak, but many will argue it’s too early. Wyatt is coming off a loss to Cena, and if WWE wants to keep him relevant, he’ll need this win. Cesaro has been due for a major push, but ever since joining up with Heyman, his push has kind of deflated. This could be the opportunity he needs. Either way, I’m sure this will give us a great main event.
