Day 4, creepy campers, and today’s feature is the horror/thriller Delirium. Tom (That ’70s Show‘s Topher Grace) is released from a mental institution to serve a 30 day house arrest in his family home. His parole officer (Patricia Clarkson) is determined to keep an eye on him, but Tom just hopes his meds keep him at peace for his confinement. He meets a girl from the local market (Genesis Rodriguez) when she delivers groceries, and forms a sort of friendship. But all might not be well with the house, as Tom hears strange noises in the walls and begins to have horrific visions. Is he truly being haunted, or is someone messing with his madness? 8/10 stars
The movie serves as a fairly entertaining thriller with horror elements, with a couple of mildly effective jump scares. Director Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left) keeps viewers nicely off-balanced as you try to figure out if Tom is truly being haunted or if something else is going on. Grace gives a fine performance, and carries the movie well. Rodriguez is competent as the familiar love interest, and Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) is properly menacing as Tom’s brother, Alex. There are a couple of nice make-up effects in Tom’s horrific visions, and the air of suspense is balanced nicely with some goofy humor. Worth a look. Now showing on Netflix and available on Blu-ray/DVD.
