Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the nineteenth installment of the long running first person shooter franchise and a direct sequel to the 2019 reboot of the series. The campaign follows Task Force 141, led by faimilar characters of Soap and Ghost in pursuit of an Iranian terrorist who has allied himself with a Mexican drug cartel and has stolen nuclear missiles. Multiplayer has nine modes to choose from, including two new ones (Knockout and Prisoner Rescue). There are also three co-op Spec Ops modes and large scale battles like Ground War and Invasion.
PROS
- Campaign has a good story and well done voice acting
- Campaign missions are nicely varied between all out combat and stealth
- Good visuals and sound
- Tight controls
- Multiplayer has plenty of options for quick play sessions or longer large scale battles
- Spec Ops returns with good co-op modes
- Customization offers plenty of options to make your soldier your own
CONS
- Campaign difficulty ramped up, even on easy difficulty setting but not in a good way
- Cheap deaths
- Menus feel clunky to navigate
- Unbalanced multiplayer matchmaking (less skilled or leveled players at a severe disadvantage)
In all, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has a lot to offer long time fans of the franchise, and it is these fans who most likely will enjoy the game the most. Newcomers may be put off by the more difficult campaign and a multiplayer that tends to mix lesser leveled players with more experienced series veterans. The game looks and sounds great, as the franchise normally does, and the campaign story, while not outstanding, is fairly decent for its 6-8 hour length. Multiplayer has a nice amount of options for both customization and gameplay. It’s another solid entry in the long running franchise, and for fans an easy purchase to make.
