Megacon’s ‘May 2017 Orlando Convention’s Love Is Love’ Event Raised Funds and Awareness
Orlando, FL – August 7, 2017 – MegaCon™, the Southeast’s largest fan conventions with shows
in both Orlando and Tampa Bay, is proud to announce their Love is Love events during MegaCon
Orlando 2017 raised $18,405.21. The proceeds raised have been donated to Equality Florida,
Florida’s civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida’s lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

MegaCon Orlando came together with Marc Andreyko’s (DC Comics) Love is Love project to host
a weekend of programming to honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre during MegaCon
Orlando in May at the Orange County Convention Center. The weekend began with a cocktail
reception and book signing on Friday, May 26, which brought together some of the comic
industry’s top talent including George Perez, Tom King, Scott Snyder, Gail Simone, Cat Staggs
and Dan Didio, as well as Love is Love project creator Marc Andreyko. The programming ran
throughout the weekend leading up to a live art auction on Saturday, May 27.
“We are so grateful for the fundraising event MegaCon hosted supporting our Honor Them With
Action campaign that we launched in the aftermath of Pulse to uproot anti-LGBTQ
discrimination and violence,” said Nadine Smith, CEO of Equality Florida. “The compassion and
support shown by MegaCon and the contributors of the Love is Love comic anthology have
been an inspiration.”

Following the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, a project in the comic community named Love is Love
began to take shape. Spearheaded by comic book and screen writer Marc Andreyko (DC
Comics), a group of more than 300 comic book creators contributed to the creation of a comic
anthology, the proceeds of which go to the victims, survivors and their families via Equality Florida.
Launched in January 2017 with Marc Andreyko appearing on The Seth Meyers Show, the book
received an overwhelming critical response and has gone into multiple printings. An exclusive
printing was made available at MegaCon Orlando 2017.

This is truly incredible… To be  part of an event like this was truly once in a lifetime expereince. From the fantastic fans that were at the event, and the gratious hosts that created this great venue.

Again I want to say thank you for the creators and Megacon for bringing this event to life for this great cause!

This is what truly makes conventions special: Community coming together!
