As we expected after yesterday’s teaser, a Nightcrawler series seemed to be inevitable. Today it became official, the fuzzy elf with gain his own ongoing beginning this April, with legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont, and artist Todd Nauck. You can check the beautiful cover for issue #1 below, drawn by the talented Chris Samnee.
“He’s smart, tough, creative [and] daring, with an instinctive understanding of people and situations,” said Claremont, about Nightcrawler. “He has a wicked sense of humor and a devastating charm. As his body’s designed well outside the box of human experience, so too are his thought processes. His ‘normal’ is revolutionary to most people; throw him a problem, he’ll find a way to solve it that’s unique to him. He quite simply is the kind of man [who] others trust; to know him is to have faith in him.”
“Chris Claremont was the first writer I read on a regular basis,” Nauck says. “It’s a thrill and an honor to be working with who I feel is the godfather of X-Men comics. It was his stories that made me care about these characters and made me a lifelong fan of the X-Men.”
Nightcrawler debuted in Giant Size X-Men #1, in 1975, and has recently been revived in Marvel’s Amazing X-Men series. You can check Nauck’s sketches for Nightcrawler and Wolverine below, and get a taste of what this book will look like.
