Taking cues from Telltale Games, developer Dramatic Labs Delivers a solid Star Trek experience with their new game, Star Trek: Resurgence. Choices guide the story, split between Commander Jara Rydeck and engineer Carter Diaz aboard the U.S.S Resolute, and have real impact on which ending you get. While mainly an adventure game, it’s not without some action, as you will be breaking out your phasers on occasion. The controls work fairly well, with only a few sequences being a little complicated. The voice acting is well done and the characters likeable.
PROS
Beautiful visuals
Likeable and well developed characters
Good story
Solid controls
Feels like a Star Trek episode
Choices matter
CONS
Some control combinations can get a little complicated
Technical issues, especially frame rate slowdown
Story slow in parts
While Star Trek: Resurgence doesn’t do anything to shake up the tried and true formula of adventure games, it does provide an authentic experience. Choices matter, and the story does have a couple of nice surprises on the way. Some technical issues hold the game back slightly, but if you’re a Star Trek fan, then this is one not to miss.
