24: Underground #4 Review

This was just another great issue of suspense and thrill.

I don’t know how many issues are planned for this series but so far the pacing has been excellent and the story has progressed along the same lines as an episode of the TV series.

As you would expect this issue picks up straight after the last issue, in fact if I am being totally honest it was not exactly after the last issue, which could be a problem in some 24 fans eyes, however I don’t think this book is doing the real time element of 24 rather it is played out a lot like the current shortened TV series. So, the CIA are questioning Petro’s wife and son as to the whereabouts of Jack and they get the information they need. Jack and Petro arrange a meet with the person that supposedly has Sofiya and is told to come alone but Jack plans for Petro to follow behind him. All this time Sofiya is on the run from her captor and is picked up by the CIA in classic 24 fashion. Jack is not too happy to learn Sofiya has evaded her captor and the issue ends on a shocking note.

I still love this series. It constantly makes me want to turn the page and read more, and makes for a really fast read as it is end to end exciting. My only problem with the series as a whole is that it is a monthly and it is hard to wait a month in between the books. This might sound one of those positive negatives that people say at job interviews when asked the question what is your greatest weakness? And is answered “well some people say I am too organised…” This is not the case, when I say it is a problem that we have to wait a month for the next issue, I am being serious. With the TV show it is weekly and you feel like you get a lot more resolution quickly, with a monthly book I just feel it is going to take a long time for resolutions and answers. Therefore I really think the publisher or creative team need to seriously think about making this book a weekly or even a bi-monthly.

So apart from my gripe with the scheduling, this really was another fun issue from a series I can’t recommend more. Perhaps upon my recommendation I might say to those with a high level of impatience that they should maybe wait for trades, but I for one want to keep coming back every month to see the next stage of the story.
