If you read the other two issues that were released this week, you would realise that this is the third and final part of this week’s issues as it is Chapter 1 of Last Sun, and we are finished with SuperDoom.
This is another super fun issue of the Doomed event in what has been a complete turnaround for this event in my eyes. There is a great flow between the issues this week and you can really tell the writers have been working closely with one another building a consistent and all-encompassing storyline for the readers.
If you have read the previous two issues this week, and you can sort of tell by the change in name for the chapter, Doomsday is no more and we have our Clark back, the big baddy is Brainiac and it is literally the whole world vs. Brainiac. Considering the intensity of the Superman’s Doomsday issue it did feel that he was dispatched quite easily in the end, but anyhow, the story is much better without it as it was really dragging on the whole body taken over thing.
First and foremost this issue looks great and this is a true testament to Aaron Kuder whose work on this book has been amazing since he jumped on, but the true epicness of this storyline really showcases his talent. We are just luck too that Pak is able to craft a great part of the story too, making this a really strong issue.
The war of the world vs Brainiac is great and really created a fun epic story, however what is even more fun is Batman’s plan, and Pak really pulls it out of the bag and ties it in to an earlier part of the Doomed story in his Batman/Superman book which is a really nice payoff because at the time it seemed that issue was a bit random and out of place in the Doomed story.
This issue worked really well showcasing a number of characters and as the previous two parts of Doomed released this week has done, it really progresses the event further and makes for a fantastic read that has really turned this event around from being quite stale, and now that Superman is no longer infected I really can’t wait to see what comes next and if it is anything like the 3 issues of Doomed we got this week, I am sure it is going to be great.
