With all the news dropping this week, it’s about time a smaller publisher got in on the announcements! This latest announcement is coming from Boom, and will bring back the creative team behind the Amory Wars, Claudio Sanchez and his wife, Chondra Echert. Many may know Claudio Sanchez not only as a comic book author, but also as the frontman of progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria. This new series will be entitled Translucid, and will center around a superhero called The Navigator, and his relationship with his arch nemesis, The Horse. The creative team is aiming to do something new with superheroes, examining the complex relationship between a hero and his or her rogues gallery, as well as the morality and ethics behind what heroes do.

In an interview with Newsarama, Echert said that “The overall theme of it is the question of morality. What makes a hero and what makes a villain?” She went on to say that the creative process consisted of questioning “What would have happened if Batman’s past was not good? What if his parents weren’t necessarily nice people? What if he came from a troubled home and still underwent these traumatic experiences? How would he then evolve as a hero?” Both Sanchez and Echert have admitted to being heavily influenced by the relationship between Batman and the Joker, while promising to do something original at the same time. Translucid begins in April.
