Captain America #24 Review

Written by: Rick Remender

Art by: Carlos Pacheco & Paul Renaud

Publisher: Marvel

Rick Remender has written another exciting issue in his Captain America run, however it is one that has fallen rather flat with me.

Don’t get me wrong I loved everything about this issue, it looked great and it read superbly. I even liked the final page, but it was the final page that I also have a massive problem with.

First and foremost, this issue definitely acted as a transition issue of such where we clearly are seeing a lot less Steve Rogers and we are seeing significantly more of Sam Wilson as a hero. And he was great as a hero and some of dialogue was excellently written, it was funny yet to the point and serious. Seeing as Zola spent most of the issue with Jet it is understandable that even without Steve being old that Sam would be involved in the issue a lot because of his relationship with Jet and this was really well portrayed.

So with all the good points about the issue and the return of a certain character who has a connection with Ian and Steve it was a really good read. The last sequence was also superbly dramatic and there was a lot of suspense, my issue with it though is that anybody that has been reading this series has probably heard the news about a new Captain America in the coming months therefore the heroism and the drama of the final page looked amazing but really felt flat with me knowing what is to come of Sam Wilson. One thing it does do is that it makes me really interested to find out what has happened to Sam and how is he going to get out of that situation.

As I mentioned above the issue looked amazing. It was very crisp and vibrant. All the characters looked superb and some of the close up panels just blew my mind especially of the ageing Steve Rogers, this is definitely a long way from the Dimension Z stuff where a lot of people had issues with the art.

So combining a great looking book with some terrific dialogue and thrilling action sequences, this was a pretty good issue. Sam Wilson was excellent in this issue and if this is what we have to look forward to when he takes the rein of Cap, then I for one will be on board.
