Clone #17 – Review

Clone has been one of my favourite books since it launched a couple of years ago. I love the quick dialogue and surprises around every corner and I especially like the cliff-hangers at the end of each issue. And this issue was no different.

This is another great issue in what has been a very consistent book since it first arrived on our shelves. Every issue seems to follow the same formula yet it still manages to hook you in especially as you now really care for these characters and you want to see how their fate plays out.

This issue continues from where we left off with Amelia having just been shot by those who were hiding in the cupboard. We will never know however, if Amelia would have died anyway by the hands of the clones but either way I enjoyed the line of where the story is going. The manic and mayhem of the past few issues continues as Luke frantically tries to find a way to save her, and it just so happens one of the clones is a former junkie paramedic. Step up Paramedic Clone to save the day. Well sort of… we will just have to wait and see what Amelia’s fate is over the next few issues. At the same time, those clones who were just about to kill Amelia, now want to kill the father and son who just shot Amelia, though this is for complete selfish reasons as they did not want the location of where the clones are hiding to be found out by anyone. Especially the coalition!! At this point we have a nice sequence where we see Luke persuading the other clones not to kill them to show them they are not the monsters that the clones are being made out to be. Only to go in the other room and Luke finding out this father and son are part of the coalition. Why he didn’t want to tell the others I do not know, but I can’t wait to find out why!!

What I am also really enjoying is how the writers are intertwining the other strands of the story simultaneously with Luke and the clones’ adventures. This issue we see Tattooed Luke infiltrating the Coalition. I thought it was an excellent sequence when sitting in the meeting, Tattooed Luke daydreamed killing them all, only to snap out of it and realise his mission at hand is much more important than killing these low life’s, and when we see him at a rally later on, not only do we see the scope of the Coalition, and what it has become, but we also realise that Tattooed Luke’s aims are much higher.

And the final strand of the storyline is former crazy lady having a change of heart and realising her mistakes in how she treated Luke back when he was caught by her. She wants to get his forgiveness but obviously she can’t as she and everyone else at this point thinks Luke and the clones are dead. She gets a tip off for a next of kin I am assuming and finds her way to Amelia’s mother’s house, this leads us to an ending which is truly chilling to think about what might happen next.

Clone is really a must read at the moment and I can understand why they are trying to make this into a TV show. The plot, the pacing, and the characters make this a really thought provoking, fun, and emotional ride. This issue is another entertaining read and although it doesn’t move the story forward greatly, it acts as a sort of pause in time to show us where we are at with the different strand of storylines and allows us to see where we will be going next.
