It’s Game of Thrones but with talking animals, what more do you want? Couple that with a huge world, an awesome set of characters, and the fact that Kurt Busiek is crafting a story that’s wholly unpredictable and you’ve got yourself a big winner.
Really though, the biggest draw is how confident Autumnlands: Tooth and Claw is with its own world. So many of the comics I read try and rush to the end, filling their pages with the biggest moments and most explosive set pieces, but here, we get everything, from the big to the small. It’s one of the few comics I read that actually gives itself room to breathe.
It knows exactly where it wants to go and when it will get there, and if you don’t like that well, it doesn’t need you.
Also, the artwork is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. From the magic to the action to the weather effects to the characters themselves, everything is great. I have mad respect for Mr. Ben Dewey.
