Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

Today, 2K confirmed the existance of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The game is set between the first two Borderlands and will be released to the last generation of consoles plus PC.

The Pre-Sequel, which is being developed by 2K Australia with a little help from Gearbox, is going to feature four new playable characters,  Athena, Wilhelm, Sheriff and the fan favorite robot, Claptrap. Each of them will bring an all-new class to the game.

In the game you’ll play as a Handsome Jack employee tasked with fixing the space station Hyperion that crashed on the moon. The story will showcase Handsome Jack’s rise to glory, and what led him to become the evil figure we meet in Borderlands 2.

Set in space, The Pre-Sequel features a new gameplay mechanic that revolves around manaing your O2 reserve in order to acquire new mobility skills to help you in zero gravity.

Gearbox’ boss, Randy Pitchford, talked to Polygon about the fact that the game will not launch on the new systems, but only on Xbox 360 and PS3. “One hundred percent of the budget and the investment and the resources and the talent that have been invested into Borderlands Pre-Sequel have been spent to create content, have been spent to iterate technology from the Borderlands 2 engine.” he said. “The advantage of course is we know that all the people that played any of the Borderlands games before has these platforms.”
