DC Comics announced yesterday that there would be a new ongoing series for the Trinity… of SIN! The book will be written by J.M. DeMatteis with art by Yvel Guichet. DeMatteis is noted of course for his work on a number of DC books, including Justice League International, Justice League Europe, and the recent Justice League 3000. Yvel Guichet is known for his recent work closing out the Stormwatch title. The book, which starts in October, is one of many that DC has announced in the last week to increase their number of titles.
The book follows the aptly named Trinity of Sin, consisting of Pandora, The Phantom Stranger, and the Question. Pandora and The Phantom Stranger are both closing out their own solo title this summer, which DeMatteis says will not lead into his work. As the writer of the current Phantom Stranger title, he does plan on using threads from those books in his own work going forward, but he emphasizes that he wants this book to stand on it’s own and explore the cast in a way they haven’t been so far. His hope is that this book will exceed the reach of the previous titles.
The biggest mystery the series will have to explore could possibly be the Question himself. The character does not have the benefit of his own solo series to have explored his current status. As such, he still doesn’t even know who he truly is. It’s clear that the character has a large following, but perhaps with a new platform the character will finally have an opportunity to come into the light. Similarly, Pandora and her role in recreating the DC Universe is sure to be a hot button topic, especially with the upcoming anniversary of the landmark Crisis on Infinite Earths.
