Katana will be coming to Arrow this fall on The CW! Yes, the character, best known for her time as a member of the Outsiders and the Birds of Prey, along with a brief stint in the JLA as well as her own recent ongoing series, will be appearing in the third season of the show, which has quickly become a huge hit for the network.
Katana will be played by Devon Aoki, who is largely known for her portrayal of Miho in another comic book adaptation, Sin City, back in 2005. This role will actually be her first role in five years, since playing Anna in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead. With her history in martial arts based roles, the choice seems perfect.
This casting continues the trend of building out the universe of Arrow, drawing in numerous characters from across the DC universe, which last year notably included The Flash (Eventually leading to his own show). It’s unclear exactly what role Katana will be playing in the upcoming season of the show. In the comics, Katana was known for seeking revenge for the death of her husband before joining up with Batman’s Outsiders team. Of course, it is unlikely that she will wield a sword containing the souls of those that it has killed, but Arrow’s second season did introduce some more supernatural elements to the universe in which it takes place.
