Double Helix Games, developer of the Xbox One remake of Killer Instinct, has been acquired by Amazon, reports TechCrunch. The report came after an invitation for a joint recruiting event for Amazon and Double Helix on February 13th leaked the news, that was confirmed by Amazon, who responded TechCrunch’s report by saying “Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.”
This adds to the ongoing rumor that the gigantic company is working on a console of its own, rumored to be Qualcomm based, and with a price tag of about $300, aiming to compete directly with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. Double Helix’s previous games will continue to be supported after the acquisation, as well as upcoming releases such as Strider, coming later this month on PS3. Double Helix is based on Irvine, California, where Amazon Game Studios also have a presence.
