Before Aquaman hits the big screen on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he will star in the next DC Animated Flick, which will adapt one of the New 52’s best storylines so far. In Justice League: Throne of Atlantis we’ll see the aftermath of the post-credits sequence on Justice League: War, in which we see Orm, the Ocean Master, ready to move against the surface world. Today we’ve gotten our first image (above) and first details regarding the film.
Supervising Producer James Tucker, who created the Aquaman of Batman: The Brave and The Bold, spoke to TV Guide about bringing the character to life. “We meet him at a low point in his life. He’s a little bit lost. His father has died and he’s always been an outsider, so the one person who had his back is now gone. When that Atlanteans instigate incidents to escalate a war with the surface world, he doesn’t yet know who he is. As he discovers his true history he’s going to have a lot of choices to make. It’s definitely about him finding his own path.”
“A lot of times with Aquaman people just focus on his powers and their opinion of them as being lame — which I don’t believe — and that’s all they think of him,” he says. “Hopefully we’ve made him a person in people’s eyes first. And then the powers and the telepathy with fish and all that can be put in perspective.”
The King of the Seas will be played by 90210’s Matt Lanter, who was also Anakin on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Aside from thim, the film will see the return of Justice League: War’s Jason O’Mara (Batman), Shemar Moore (Cyborg), Christopher Gorham (The Flash) and Sean Astin (Shazam). On top of that, other DC animation vets are back, including Firefly’s own Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Rosario Dawson (Wonder Woman) and Jerry O’Connell (Superman). Being Human’s Sam Witer will play Orm and Sumalee Montano, who played Katana on the short-lived Beware The Batman cartoon will be Aquaman’s wife, Mera.
