2014 marks the 30th anniversary of one of the best comedies ever released (at least in this writers eyes) and is getting a full theatrical re-release coming August 29th. This date is about 2 months over the original opening weekend of the movie but fellow fans of the franchise should be excited that Sony is putting this much effort into this event.
On top of the theatrical re-release, on September 16th Sony will also be releasing a new blu ray set for both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, which also is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The set will come in two versions, a basic digibook set and a limited edition set containing a special Slimer statue. Both versions of the set will have copies of the movies remastered for high definition 4K TVs along with finally getting the deleted scenes from Ghostbusters II.
Lexine Wong, Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as quoted as saying the following:
“To celebrate this milestone anniversary, we wanted to create something new and collectible for fans. These new Ghostbusters Blu-rays will feature the highest quality presentation along with new content that reflects the rich history of this iconic franchise,”
With all this news regarding the original two movies, is an official announcement for Ghostbusters 3 that far behind?
