If there is one thing that Donna didn’t need at this point in her life it was certainly this. With the reveal that Donna was pregnant the line “Would it be terrible if I stayed in here until the girls go to sleep.” rings even louder. TV shows almost never do an great job of slowly building up to a surprise pregnancy. It’s always a woman getting the flu and her putting it off until it goes away. With that said it did feel like a punch to the gut once Donna was alone in her bathroom taking it all in. But, of course, this isn’t cancer or whatever Gordon has –more on that later.– it’s the miracle of life. Except this, miracle is very unhelpful at a time like this. The choice she has before her now is a tough one especially for the mid 80’s and as little as the kids are shown on the show now you have to imagine that she will have to drop mutiny altogether if the ‘miracle’ does happen.
But her business partner Cameron had a much more productive week. She invented the online first person shooter and made out with the hacker that almost destroyed her company. Tom has become a much more intriguing part in the enterprise. The scene of him trying to take a group photo was a nice change of pace from seeing Donna be the ‘mother’ of Mutiny. And him falling asleep can be attributed to the fact he works late nights at a grocery store. We have yet to see his rude side since he ripped into Cameron. And that’s weird. He went from an asshole to a nice guy in the span of an episode. He smiled a lot this week, and that’s great it just feels like we went zero to sixty way to quickly. Or at least without any consistency.

“I wonder what my kids are up to this late.”
Speaking of speed. It’s about time Joe and Gordon had some purpose or at least some connection to the other characters. The reveal that Gordon wants mutiny to work with Cameron and Donna was a good way to pull all these threads together. I can’t imagine that Mutiny will be all that happy with the arrangement, but beggars can’t be choosers I mean for pete’s sake the workers aren’t even getting paid anymore. Speaking of which seeing Cameron lash out at her bearded friend for leaving was a moment that reminded me of annoying Cameron from a year ago. She puts him down because he;s not willing to work for free. That’s a dick move and felt out of place for this newer politer Cameron.
As for this new and improved happy Cameron. Now that Joe has a fiance and Cameron has Tom. I can guarantee that they will hook up. I’m 100 percent sure that Joe and Cameron now rekindle their weird passion for one another. It is just like those two combustible characters to revert to their old ways. But that is for another episode. As for the Joe right now he’s going above and beyond to make something out of his dead-end job. And pulling Gordon into it was a nice way to thread the needle. Sure Gordon collapsed but Joe seemed to be genuinely concerned for him at the time so maybe Joe hasn’t lost his sharp teeth they have just been dulled a bit.

“Bosworth…John Bosworth”
Probably my favorite highlight of this week’s episode was watching Bosworth back in action selling to the masses. He was so smooth and polite with that lady and her kid. Even if their dialog felt overly canned. He was a bright spot, and he needed it after the past two weeks of really depressing stuff for him. And his father figure role to Cameron continues with him eyeing up Tom. After Cameron went all Rambo and wound up in a closet with Tom it was hard to not see them develop some connection once again a bit contrived winding up in a closet together laughing. But at least they were talking about games and code. And who know Cameron invented the First person online shooter.
This episode was the first one to start pulling all these characters in a similar direction. Each of them has been in the episodes, but they all felt very disparate. Now that Joe and Mutiny have a somewhat stable connection it will be interesting to see what develops between Joe and Cameron or Joe and Donna. Maybe even Joe and Bosworth. I doubt the band will ever be back together, but this keeps them all in the same stadium. But things like a baby, Tom, Joe’s father in law will undoubtedly throw some wrenches into the big picture.
