Talk about some unexpected good news! According to a post on PlayStation’s official EU blog, PS+ subscribers who own a PS4 will finally be getting some AAA goodness on their platform! The post showcases November’s games, which have been known for quite some time now and will include the hotly-anticipated The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, but it’s the surprising teaser at the end of the article that caught everyone’s attention.
As it turns out, next month PS4 owners will be treated Injustice: Gods Among Us, which made WTN’s Top 10 Games of 2013 list. December’s second offering will be the indie game Secret Ponchos, which was originally slated to join PS+ in April, but was eventually delayed. In January, we will receive inFamous: First Light, the stand-alone DLC of inFamous: Second Son which stars Fetch, probably the most beloved character from the game. The second PS4 title will be the atmospheric indie puzzler The Swapper, which was actually recommended by James Portnow of “Extra Credits” fame, giving it an automatic seal of quality.
So, why announce these titles now? My guess is that Sony have been influenced by the uproar following the recent PS+ announcements. It’s no secret that many fans, myself included, were rather disappointed by the lackluster selection of titles in recent months. Considering the latest trends, subscribers who prioritize the Instant Game Collection over the PS4 multiplayer have little incentive to renew their subscriptions. What’s more–we’re in the month of Black Friday and pre-holiday shopping, when PS+ prices will inevitably drop, causing Sony to inevitably profit from the sheer amount of sales. My guess is that this announcement was a subtle wink to the fans, Sony’s way of saying “Just trust us–we know we messed up, but good things will once again start coming to PS+ very soon”.
So, what do you guys think? Have Sony redeemed PS+ for you with this announcement, or are you still disappointed by the service? Tell us in the comments below.
