Just Smashing! New Exciting Features for Super Smash Bros 4

There is less than a month away until Nintendo’s favorite plumber joins his all-star cast to deliver one of the Wii U’s most anticipated games of the Holiday Season. Along with beautifully crafted levels, intense on and offline multiplayer, and an uncanny amount of playable characters, Nintendo has without doubt, rekindled its fighting spirit amongst its fan base.

Super Smash Bros on the Wii U will be the franchises largest and most engrossing title since its 1999 debut on the Nintendo 64. Popular appearances from Link, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, and Star Fox will not only be playable at the initial start of the game; but additional fighters from EVERY aspect of Nintendo’s history will be at your disposal. In fact, Nintendo has made it clear that Super Smash Bros will have FORTY playable characters at launch, with a helping of unlock-able fighters for those who are up for the challenge. You can expect to control characters ranging from Mr. Game and Watch to Megan Man and even your own Mii. Each character will have their own unique movie that is retrieved after completing the Classic or All-Stars game mode. Gamers can also expect the return of the Masterpieces (from Super Smash Bros Brawl), which allowed players to sample various parts of the original game that is connected to a character within the Smash Bros fighter line up. Nintendo has already confirmed nearly two dozen titles that can be sampled via Smash Bros, or purchased from the Nintendo eShop.

I’m personally excited about the detail that is being put into each stage. Every Super Smash Bros title has done an exceptional job at creating a looming danger within each level. Whether you’re dodging cars on Capt. Falcons F-Zeros track, or evading fire from Slippy in Star Foxes Corneria stage; super smash Bros has always had a masterful touch with level design that keeps the player on their toes. This 4th installment of the franchise is no different. Fan favorites will grace the consoles along with both new and larger stages such as Big Battlefield, which can hold up to 8 players simultaneously. And if that was not enough for your excitement, then you should also know that players can now jump from the foreground to the background of certain stages. Still not excited? Well then maybe you should design your own stage. According to Nintendo, that too, will be possible. Players will have the ability to use their Wii U GamePad and create their own stages that can eventually be shared online.

Final Destination

Another addition to this latest installment is an action figure-like statue called an amiibo (uh-me-bow). These are sold independently, but can be used in game by placing the amiibo onto your Wii U GamePad. The result is an additional fighter added to the game under the title “figure player.” Interestingly enough, you can level up your amiibo by fighting with them against other characters. Your Wii U GamePad isn’t the only piece of hardware that’s getting a little TLC from Smash Bros. Owners of both the 3DS and Super Smash Bros (3DS version), will have a handful of exclusives such as a special soundtrack from Club Nintendo, Imported fighters from the 3DS and Mewtwo. Players that have this game on their 3DS will have also had an advantage because the controller configuration has been modeled after its handheld proceeded.

Smash Bros looks very promising and is PACKED with tons options and extra content. It’s hard to guess if this game will help sell systems for Nintendo, but if they can deliver on what was showcased yesterday, then I am sure that Nintendo will be just fine this winter.
