Lex Luthor: Hero?

According to Associated Press writer Matt Moore, “Lex Luthor is sporting a new title on his business card: Hero.” And what do heroes do in the DC Universe? They join the Justice League, and this seems to be the next step for Lex Luthor. April 2013 will signal many changes for Geoff Johns’ (Green Lantern, The Flash) Justice League title, as his Forever Evil event winds down and comes to a close. The cover image, which was unveiled in DC’s April solicits, is shown below, and it features new members to the League Lex Luthor, Captain Cold (A Flash Rogue that Luthor seems to be bringing with him), and Shazam. Former Leaguers Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg are also featured on the cover, and they look none to happy about their new team member. Oddly enough, notable Justice League members like Superman, The Flash, and Green Lantern are absent from the new line-up.

The New 52’s new Justice League line up, which will debut in April’s issue #30.

Series writer Geoff Johns went on to tell AP the following about the changes coming to Justice League: “The Justice League is going to go through a lot of changes, obviously, in the wake of Forever Evil. A lot of the blame can be put on their shoulders for what has happened: They were infiltrated and they fought each other and that led to the unleashing of the Crime Syndicate and the evil that took over the world.” The post Forever Evil world seems quite different from the DC Universe we’ve been used to since the start of The New 52, and the face of the Justice League has been changed.

The article in AP went on to say that “The team’s dynamic is going to be tested with his [Lex Luthor] presence and Luthor will find himself facing different pressures commensurate with his new position, one that will see him break new and unfamiliar ground.” This fallout from Forever Evil is not at all what many people were likely expecting, and it remains to be seen if this is the Luthor that we know, or simply a red herring.
