Marc Guggenheim takes over for Brian Wood on X-Men

Marc Guggenheim, the writer and executive producer of the CBS series Arrow ( and the 2011 Green Lantern movie) will be taking over X-Men for current writer Brian Wood starting with issue #18.  Guggenheim is excited to work on the all female storyline and says that he intends to keep very close to Wood’s work which has served to deepen some X-Men and villainesses and create a very strong team for the new team to work with.

When he was asked how he came to be involved in a new comic writing venture, Guggenheim responded that he’d had an “itch” to write for a while so he contacted an old acquaintance at marvel, editor Mike Marts. Marts, who had offered him an opportunity to write several years back for DC, offered him another chance right away replying

“Actually, it just so happens that I literally just developed a new X-Men for a four-issue story. Do you want to pitch on it?”

Guggenheim got to work right away, writing up several ideas for his pitch while working on the set of Arrow. His pitch was accepted and he is in the process of writing a four part ladies only story set in space. He chose space because it called back to his very earliest encounters with the X-Men and he wants to recreate that feeling for new readers with an incredibly dynamic cast including new and existing villains.

Specific details are on the ground, since Brian Wood has two more issues to write that could effect the continuing storyline and Guggenheim is endeavor in got write a very smooth transition to the space mission. He has confirmed that he will be writing a Deathbird conflict but says she won’t be the run’s main villain.
