Nailbiter #3 Review

Written by: Joshua Williamson

Art by: Mike Henderson

Publisher: Image

Nailbiter’s third issue continues the intriguing and distinctive story that seems to be shaping up exceptionally. The setting works well with the tone to craft an appealing story, that unlike others in the genre, isn’t prosaic.

This issue continues following Nicholas Finch, who has come to Buckaroo, a town of serial killers, to find Carroll, his best friend. The eponymous serial killer of the novel is about to be hanged by vigilantes who think that he is to blame. Sherriff Crane and Finch rush to the scene and save Warren in the nick of time. They then decide to protect him.

The story is quickly paced and keeps the reader wanting more. Joshua Williamson succeeds mostly because of his well chosen no-nonsense tone that is channeled through Sherriff Crane. His story is complemented by Mike Henderson’s art that is realistic, while conveying a sense of mystery. Some panels seem detailed, while others don’t, this inconsistency is not very noticeable but still hurts the artwork.

The introduction of the Y2K killer was enjoyable, as the reader could enjoy a feeling of omniscience as he was stalking our protagonists.

Nailbiter is continuing its wonderful run, and I can’t wait to pick up the next issue. Meanwhile, I would recommend you to get it right now!
