News Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Sandman

Update: Contrary to earlier reports, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has only signed on to produce Sandman. He revealed this through a personal tweet which he personally posted early Tuesday morning. Goyer and Gaiman are still signed on to oversee the screenplay and executive produce the film. Interestingly enough, JGL wrote an earlier tweet with the hashtag “#Prelude” which could potentially refer to the first eight issues of the Sandman series which were later compiled into a collection entitled Preludes & Nocturnes. Levitt did not deny any possibilities of directing or starring in the film himself saying “The rest remains to be seen.” You can see these tweets and more by searching Levitt’s twitter handle @hitRECordJoe. Read the original story below.

The story follows a deity named Morpheus who is the embodiment of dreams. The story went on to become one of Vertigo’s flagship stories, winning numerous rewards, and raising the DC side-publisher to prominence. You can read The Hollywood Reporter’s full article here. The film adaptation had been stuck in pre-production since the mid-90’s and was once attached to The Wolverine director James Mangold for a TV series on HBO. Those following DC’s recent activity and rumors know that this project adds to the studio’s long list of upcoming projects including several TV series, the highly anticipated Batman vs. Superman, and even rumors on a possible TV series for another classic Vertigo story, Preacher, which could be head by Seth Rogen. A release date has yet to be announced. More on this story will come as details surface.
