Shadows of the Damned first hit consoles in 2011, and its quirky sense of humor and action won over audiences. Now Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami have brought the game back in a HellaRemastered version. Unlike most remasters, the gameplay has been pretty much left untouched, with just a slight upgrade in graphics. The game does show its age, and some newer players may get frustrated with the controls. A lot of the humor still works, but there are some misses as well.
PROS
Game can be very funny
Decent B-movie style story
Decent voice acting
Game doesn’t overstay its welcome (can be completed in a weekend)
CONS
Controls can be twitchy and unresponsive at times
Not all the humor aged well
Visuals given only a minor upgrade over original
No extras
Fans of the original will probably enjoy this remaster more, while newcomers may get more frustrated by the twitchy controls and the camera. The game really has no quality of life improvements, and has left the gameplay intact from the 2011 original. This may be more a purchase for die hard fans, while others might want to wait for a sale.
