ADVANCE REVIEW: Silver Surfer #11

Written by: Dan Slott

Art by: Mike Allred

Publisher: Marvel

Please allow me to begin this review by saying that I am a huge fan of both Mike Allred and Dan Slott. The two of them collaborating is basically a fantasy come true for me. I have long considered this Silver Surfer the best on-going series in the Marvel Universe. I am a huge fan of Allred’s work. I live in awe of his penciling and the mighty match he has made with the fantastical coloring of Laura Allred. Let me also say that Slott could write every superhero comic alive today and I would be perfectly okay with that. In fact Dan, can you just write them all? It would save me writing so many reviews that spurn from disappointment. Therefore this review might be slightly bias.

So in the interest of being unbiased I will let you know that if you intend to read this comic in digital form, please read it on a hand held device with the Screen Rotation turned off. Due to the nature of this plot which transcribes into the layout of the artistry, the one and only criticism I have, is that it’s unreadable with Screen Rotation on. It is best read in paper format. For me this is not actually a downfall as I prefer to collect and read my comics on paper. I suppose I am sort of old fashion and although I will read my advanced reviews in digital form, I collect and re-read the ones I’m passionate about on paper. Why? There’s something about holding a comic in your hands that connects you to the creators. Suddenly you feel the integrity, creativity and passion that goes into every panel, every stroke, every line of the comic.

This particular issue finishes a great story arc while beginning another. The extra special over-sized issue will make you think as it reaches beyond time and space, while entertaining you with the action and adventure you can only expect from Dan Slott. I must also assure that this issue continues to be all-ages friendly so while your out picking up a copy for yourself, do not hesitate to pick up a copy for your younger friends of any gender. Dawn Greenwood is an amazing female character who is written with great respect and ferocity. It is also a great time for new readers to jump in because this issue is a segue for the next story arc and I have come to find no disappointment in the talents of Slott and Allred as a duo.
