Sony Pictures TV Announces Series Based on Bendis Novel

Sony Pictures TV announced today that they will be producing a new original series based on Brian Michael Bendis’ graphic novel Powers. The series be exclusively aired on Playstation. The series had been recently stuck in limbo at FX, having gone through several different variations, and even producing a pilot, but it had never gotten off of the ground. The new series will be a completely different take on Bendis’ novel and will be written by Charlie Huston. Bendis will work closely on the project along with artist Michael Avon Oeming. Huston will executive produce the series along with Michael Dinner (Justified), Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies), as well as David Engel, David Alpert, and Lawrence Mattis, with Huston and Aubuchon acting as showrunners. The series is initially slated for 10 episodes and there is no word yet on whether the series will air on both Playstation 3 and 4.

powers featuredPowers combines the genres of Fantasy, Crime Noir, and Police Procedural creating a world where those with superhuman abilities are oblivious to the mortals below them and fight high above cities without any regard for citizens. The story focuses on detective Christian Walker who must protect the citizens of his city and investigate cases involving the superhumans referred to as “powers.” Playstation now joins Microsoft who announced their Halo series earlier this year.
