After narrowly escaping an Imperial trap, Princess Leia has decided to keep her distance from Luke and Han while focusing on the Alliance. Unfortunately, a figure from Leia’s past has reappeared and sent a distress message requesting aid on Lotho Minor. The message was sent by Seren Song, a childhood friend of Leia who also secretly works for the Rebel Alliance. Song is being hunted by the bounty hunter IG-88 for an unknown reason, but she promises essential information to Leia upon her rescue. This promise of information sends Luke, Leia, and Han on a desperate mission to rescue Song from an unknown enemy.
Star Wars #19 is a fairly interesting story, but I wish there had been more information about Seren Song and her secret mission. In addition, I wanted to know why IG-88 was hunting Song so intently. Who placed the bounty on Song’s head and for what reason? I’m sure that most of this information will be revealed in later issues, but I wish #19 hadn’t been cut off so abruptly. I felt that the whole issue led up to an all-important reunion between Leia and Song, but there was no payoff. However, the rest of the issue was quite enjoyable beyond this small matter. I do hope that following issues add more information and extra character interactions.
One final note about Star Wars #19 is that I quite enjoy the art style provided by Carlos D’Anda. All of the characters have a very unique appearance while still slightly resembling the actors from Star Wars. D’Anda’s work is just the thing to set the issue apart from other versions of Star Wars.
Star Wars #19 has a very interesting story, and it is definitely worth reading even with the minor story issues.
