Everyone loves a good Ninja Turtle story. This comic proves to be no different. Will it appease the fans looking to read about a darker side of the turtles? No, but it will please the fans looking for a fun and clear read.
This #1 issue starts off with a quick summary on how a time traveler named Renet has loved screwing with the turtles and their time periods. Allor also explains that a small mishap has happened with release dates, that this time traveler appeared in the Annual 2014 that hasn’t been released yet. Nevertheless, this new series stands on it’s own when it comes to understanding the plot line.
Let’s start off with the fact that Campbell creates a colorful and kid friendly atmosphere of artwork. We witness the turtles frantically running from…dinosaurs, and the turtles having no idea why or how they happened into this mess. We quickly find out that on some of those dinosaurs are Utrom Hunters, who promptly captures one of the turtles. The issue takes us through the remaining brothers figuring out a plan to rescue said captive. We also get introduced to a Pokemon look a like, given the name Pepperoni. Pepperoni seems to be an additive to our characters that most likely will remain with the whole series. Thankfully, Renet does appear, but instead of helping the turtles, she does nothing. Leaving our boys to fend for themselves. And to make matters worse, the Utrom Hunters kept focusing on how harnessing these alien lizard’s powers would be fantastic to their cause.
The one great thing about this issue, is the fact that I found myself smiling and laughing with almost every page. Allor seemed to have the moods and characteristics down with our classic ninja’s. Campbell’s artwork was easy and clean, making it refreshingly effortless to follow. On top of everything else, this comic had a great balance between action and accomplishing the story line.
Overall, this first issue is worth the read. Now for some pizza.
