The Comic Wish List: 30th July 2014

Welcome to the ninth instalment of the new weekly feature bringing you comic book previews on what we are looking forward to each and every week. Sorry about the lack of previews from last week, but we are back and ready to give you an idea of what we think you should be getting this week.

The general rule will be that we will pick one indie, one DC and one Marvel and if merited an honorable mention (or two).

So if you are deciding how to spend your money this week on New Comic Book Day, don’t worry, we got you covered!! Here are a handful we think you should pick up!

3991664-dcDetective Comics Annual #3

Written by: Brian Buccellato

Art by: Scott Hepburn

Since Buccellato and Manapul took them helm of this series every issue has been blowing the reader away. Whether it be the stunning visuals we have come to expect from Manapul, or the beautifully crafted detective script of Buccellato, everyone has praised the beginning of this run. And here we are just in time for an annual, but luckily we won’t be getting one of those annoying one shots thrown in and breaking up the flow if an arc, we will be getting an oversized issue tying in to the main story delving into the Icarus drug. What will be particularly interesting is that Manapul is not drawing this issue, we have Scott Hepburn at the helm, but we can still expect some great work from him and it will be cool to see what impact a different artist has on the feel of the series so far.

3991663-hawkHawkeye #19

Written by: Matt Fraction

Art by: David Aja

After an extended hiatus of what seems like forever, Hawkeye is finally back. Announcements regarding this issue came out a few weeks ago, Clint Barton is due to go paritally deaf following a explosion, and the bulk of the dialogue within the issue is going to be told in sign language. This wont be the first time Fraction and Aja have told a dialogue free story within the pages of Hawkeye, you only need to look at the Pizza Dog issue to see that they can tell a story in this manner. Obviously this issue will be different, and hopefully this element of the issue wont over shadow the rest of the book, but I for one and looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Low1-53871Low #1

Written by: Rick Remender

Art by: Greg Tocchini

Publisher: Image

A race to earth’s surface, what can sound more fun than that?!?! Well if the race’s starting point is from the last remaining cities undersea then this just made it sound a whole lot more fun! Remender is back with another series from Image, and this time it is an aquatic sci-fi fantasy (does this man have any limits?). Image released a preview of this series ages ago and it definitely looked promising, so this week we finally get a chance to start a new Remender adventure (BTW Black Science #7 is also out this week). I am really loving all things Remender at the moment, the guy is on fire with 4 hit series, and I have no reason to believe this won’t be a 5th.  What also has drawn a lot of attention in the previews for this series is the art and I can tell you that the art in this issue does not disappoint and it is really worth picking up just for that, but I am not going to undersell the story as I really think this has the makings of being the next big sci-fi hit. So go run out and get it on NCBD!
