Welcome back to the Wish List! Bringing you what comics the WTN Contributors are looking forward to each and every week. So if you are deciding how to spend your money this week on New Comic Book Day, don’t worry, we got you covered!!
There are too many great books hitting the stands this week, DC are starting their second month of DCYOU and their were alot of great #1’s last month so this will be the start of the real test as to how successful the “relaunch” has been. Marvel is in the midst of Secret Wars, and even though we are a month or two in, there are still new series coming out each week, and this week we see Red Skull #1 from Josh Williamson. Image has a ton of books out this week, including the final issue of Ales Kot’s Zero, and Valiant has a X-O Manowar marriage special, so many great things to read!! The list below are this weeks comics which we thought are most essential though, so read below to see why you have to pick these up!!

It’s a new Brian K. Vaughan comic, so you definitely need to pick this up! I am not entirely sold on the premise, but one thing I have learnt is to never judge a book by it’s solicit. I am purely picking this book up for the creative team and I think you should too! Oh, what’s it about? Well, its 100 years in the future and Canada is invaded by the United States, and Giant Robots are somehow involved, so if that tickles your fancy then go get it tomorrow!

I am loving this event so far! Some of the tie-ins are a bit meh, but about ¾ of what is being pumped out week after week has just been great fun! The main series is what it has all been about though and last issue was superb. We are now at the halfway point and we can and should start to expect some huge surprises. It’s frustrating that Marvel are announcing new books at the moment while this is still going on, so we sort of know how this will end, but it’s not always about the destination, it’s about the journey, and this is one journey that I want to stay on!

Publisher: DC
I have loved this creative teams run since they started. Prior to Convergence, it appeared that Pak and Kuder really got Superman/Clark Kent, and things were only getting better in this series. Post Convergence they have upped their game and delivered an epic issue last month, so to say I am excited for this month’s issue is a bit of an understatement. The Truth storyline has been really creative and fun, and despite not needing to read every issue, I really recommend picking them all up so far as it really adds to the effect of this story.

The debut issue of Airboy was…. an experience. I didn’t know what to expect going in other than some fun meta jokes based on James Robinson struggling to write the book we’re currently reading, but the gentle reflection followed by a fast drug fuelled spiral into debauchery caught me completely off guard. While the nature of the content may be off-putting for some, the amount of heart and humor means it’s definitely a book worth checking out and is Robinson’s best book in years. Top this off with the gorgeously modern art of Greg Hinkle and you’ve got a book that’s the complete package. With the very hero the book is about appearing before the creators at the end of the last issue, things should only get crazier from here, and I definitely want to be there when it happens.
Which books are you looking forward to this Wednesday, let us know in the comments……
