I’ll be honest, I haven’t read an X-men title in a while, therefore, my review is based on that type of thinking. The type of thinking that makes me confused, and satisfied by Bunn’s style of writing. The start of this annual has Magneto, Sabretooth, and Monet gathering over an empty grave. It’s the empty grave of Joshua Foley, also known as Elixir.
Then starts the parts of confusion that was brought up earlier. It seems that Bunn and Lashley share almost too much of the story line, before winding back to explain what people are doing, or who certain creatures are. Eventually, Magneto’s small group, Elixir included begin talking about Josh’s potential. Are his powers the same? Are they sourced by evil? So on and so forth. Bunn does an excellent job then of showing you a very devastating struggle that Elixir is having with himself, and the others around him. I do feel that once more issues come, this will deem for a very interesting read, and detailed story.
Readers then get to experience what I’d call a second half of the story. Readers get to get thrown into the world of Domino. We see how her powers are truly unique, and her character seems to be as well.
Overall, this comic is worth the read. As someone who had been distant from the X-Men universe, I would continue to find interest in seeing where this arc leads.
