“Drunk Walk” is the new one-shot comic by creators Jesse Davidge and Andrew Fielden. It tells the story of a man who is going out to party when the wild behavior of others catches up to him. He then has to walk home and is confronted by a woman who claims she has been raped and stabbed. What unravels throughout our journey with this man is original, thought provoking and all too real…
Drunk Walk is an incredible example of a simple, everyday idea done brilliantly. As readers, we are thrust into this unknown man’s life and we have to stick with him throughout the night. However, that certainly isn’t a bad thing, as he has more adventure in one night than some of us would have in a lifetime. Although the entirety of the comic is done in grayscale, the shading and textures are done extremely well and it really fits the moral issues that are faced during this man’s wild night out and the journey back to reality. The story is almost reminiscent of a modern Aesop’s Fables – the tale has a moral lesson behind it waiting to be found.
On top of the great story, there are a plethora of extra bonuses given, which may come as a happy surprise to readers. For example, at the end of the comic, there is a note from the author, Andrew Fielden, outlining what inspired him to come up with such a great, yet simple story, yet also warning us about the power, and perhaps, the lack of power the abuse of alcohol will bring to your life. To top it all off, there are some lovely additional character sketches at the back of the book, this time in full, vibrant color, provided by the wonderful and very talented artist, Jesse Davidge!
Overall, this was a great, refreshing indie comic and I highly recommend picking it up, especially for such a low price. You won’t be disappointed.
