Half way through May, Microsoft announced that Xbox Ones would be released without the new version of the Kinect sensor, taking a complete 180° on their original marketing for a mass market entertainment product. Today on Microsoft’s online store, the PC corporation silently announced that the new Kinect would be releasing on the 15th of July and costing gamers or application developers a little less than the previous Kinect did when it was released to the masses. Coming in a dollar short of two-hundred dollars, the ‘Kinect for Windows v2 Sensor’. Originally, the first Kinect came out for $249 and $149 for university students. Currently as this wasn’t a publicized announced, we can speculate that there won’t be any educational discount.
The kicker of the silent announcement is there is no development software for the device on PC currently but it will be available sometime this month. For those gamers interested in possibly getting a Kinect for their new Microsoft consoles, you should probably just stick with picking up the bundle that costs one-hundred extra dollars. Pre-orders are now online the Microsoft Store if you are interested but I’m pretty doubtful that people will be getting it separately as you can save a cool hundred bucks by getting the bundle.
