This series just keeps getting better and better for me. There is so much to appreciate that it quite simply is my favourite series of 2014. It’s strange as when I first read about the series I didn’t think I would be interested, but I was undoubtedly wrong.

The series has everything, drama, suspense, action, great characters, and this issue really epitomised and encompassed all of the above with the reveal of a new killer, some great surprises and some really good character work looking in to the past of Carroll and the future/present of Alice. With regards to the past of Carroll, that opening sequence in black and white, with the red of Warren’s blood looked and read superbly.

One of the things which I really appreciate about this series and specifically this issue is how well Josh Williamson paces the book. It doesn’t feel like there is a lot of rushing around and trying to fit a lot of writing on a page to get all the information, it feels like an investigation, it feels like the writer wants us to get to know these characters over and above the actual plot of the book. It is done so well, only 5 issues in I find myself feeling I have known these characters for a while now and I care for them.

The artwork on this issue was top notch, and some of the panelling was exceptional. When Finch and Crane are ‘introduced’ to a new killer the suspense created just from the panelling was incredible. What I really like about the art though is the actual visuals as a whole as it has a cartoony feel about it and actually makes the series a lot less ‘darker’ than it could have been, and I think that is one of the reasons this series really appeals to me where previous series of the same genre have not.

The issue finishes off with a great couple of cliffhangers about two characters that is definitely going to keep the reader coming back for more, but even without these cliffhangers this series has so many reasons why people should be reading it. Nailbiter continues to be a really good series with thrills and excitement and just looks fantastic.
