We’re winding down now on our travels through terror flicks, and Day 27’s feature is the 2016 movie Bedeviled. After a friend (Alexis G. Zall) dies, her friends- Alice (Saxon Sharbino), Dan (Brandon Soo Hoo), Haley (Victory Van Tuyl), Cody (Mitchell Edwards), and Gavin (Carson Boatman)- receive an invitation from her to add an app called Mr. Bedevil on their phones. The app amazes at first, but their amazement turns to terror as they learn the app is controlled by a supernatural entity that preys on their fears. 7.5/10 stars
The theme of technology mixing with the supernatural is nothing new, but the directors Abel and Burlee Vang pull things off well with believable characters and the current techno fascination with apps on smart phones. The cast is all fairly likeable, with most having some typical type fears, with one being more creepy/amusing in the form of a deranged teddy bear. The special effects are done nicely with some good demonic designs. It makes for a bit of timely horror, and it’s an entertaining watch. Now showing on Netflix and available on Blu-ray/DVD.
