The twentieth title in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III serves as a direct sequel to 2022’s Modern Warfare II. The game includes a campaign, multiplayer modes (Team Deathmatch and Ground War), and a Zombies mode. Unfortunately, technical issues afflict all three modes. The game uses the same launcher as Warzone and Modern Warfare II instead of its own, and this seems to have made a mess of things at launch. It doesn’t help that the campaign is very short (around 4-6 hours) and that it feels rushed. Multiplayer has 16 maps remastered from 2009’s Modern Warfare II, and while they look fairly good, they feel empty. The Zombies mode is structured after the DMZ in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, and is mission based rather than surviving rounds as in previous titles. The Zombies mode can be a lot of fun, and those who have their dedicated squad of friends for the multiplayer will enjoy their time there. New this year to the multiplayer is Cutthroat, with three squads of three trying to kill each other. It proves to be a good addition, though sadly no new maps are available at launch.

PROS
Game looks good visually
Gunplay is solid as ever
Zombies can be fun
Good voice acting
CONS
Technical issues affect all three modes
Campaign feels rushed
Multiplayer maps feel empty and dated
Nothing new, feels more like overpriced DLC
The latest from Activision’s long running series stumbles out of the gate with technical issues affecting all three modes, a campaign that feels rushed and uninspired, and multiplayer maps that feel empty and just retreads made to look a little nicer. Dedicated fans will still enjoy their time here, especially if they play with friends in both multiplayer modes and Zombies. Zombies can be a lot of fun, and the new Cutthroat mode is a nice addition. Sadly, this feels more like overpriced DLC, and those wanting to purchase would do well to wait for a good sale.
